The way I make films
I finance my films out of my own pocket. There are no sponsors and no film funding. The reason is simple: I do not like having other people rewrite my scripts. When too many outside interests get involved, a film can quickly lose its own soul.
I do not make films to please other people. I make films that I like. And most of the time, many other people like them too. If they do not, I can live with that.
I am behind the camera, take care of production and everything around it. There are usually only two or three of us on set. A small crew means working quickly, directly and efficiently – while still leaving plenty of room for the actors.
My actors should not simply execute their roles. They should be able to contribute creatively. For me, that is an important part of filmmaking.
